Description and goal:
Developpement and distribution of a users guide and training module for companions in infants’ class in order to detect in an early stage emotional disturbance.
Increasing expertise in educating kids in communication off emotional feelings through a users guide en training module, trying to detect in an early stage disorders and the need of interventions with children between 3 en 10 years young.
Timeplan:
Phase 1: Development of a basic methodology in infants’ classes.
Phase 2: Try out of the method in several schools and educational packages.
Phase 3: Finalise the module and start up implementation
End december 2009: 2e phase was finished.
3th phase : march 2010:
- Development of an education package for inclusion in training nursery attendants.

4th phase januari 2012:
Part 1 : Dissemination
- Study day about the research project ‘The Magic Forest’ for the Flemish teacher training institutions, the professional field and the CLBs (centres for pupil guidance).
- Development of a coaching programme for colleagues-teacher trainers who want to introduce the project material and the methodology in the training of nursery teachers.
- Development of refresher courses for nursery schools.
Part 2: Centre of expertise ‘Guidance of the social-emotional development of the young child’
- The research data of the methodology ‘The Magic Forest’ can be expanded during the dissemination phase.
- The centre of expertise :
o collects this information,
o publishes the research data,
o sets up a knowledge bank with regard to the guidance of the social-emotional development of the young child.
- The members of this centre enhance and extend their expertise with a view to implementing the methodology of ‘The Magic Forest’ in the teacher training programme of the HUB as well as a further dissemination of the project in the professional field and other teacher training institutions.
Objectives and research questions
The project aims for the dissemination of the research data and the setting up of a training programme for teacher trainers, nursery teachers and pupil counsellors.
Three staff members will be trained as ‘Magic Forest’ experts so as to ensure the training programme mentioned above.
The HUB itself will implement ‘The Magic Forest’ methodology in the training of nursery teachers.
Moreover the centre of expertise will contribute to a knowledge bank with regard to the guidance of the social-emotional development of the young child.
Validation – Use of results
The following results are aimed for :
- study day ‘The Magic Forest in the nursery class … Tested’
- publication ‘Magic Forest in the nursery class’
- DVD ‘The Magic Forest’
- articles in several magazines
- refresher courses for teacher training institutions, nursery teachers and CLB-workers (pupil counsellors)
